PRTG: Alert on the Number of Files in a Folder

Useful for queues, export folders or backups that should be emptied regularly.

1. Add the sensor: on the server device add a Folder sensor (it reads the folder over the network share):

• Name: something descriptive.
• Folder name: UNC path, e.g. \\server_name\D$\path_to_monitor\
• File filter: *.*

The device needs Windows credentials with access to that share.

2. Set the limits: in the sensor open the File count channel settings:

• Enable limit-based alerts.
• Set the upper warning and/or error limit you want.

The same sensor also gives you folder size and the age of the oldest and newest file.
